Lacking It Dental Brands: When New Patients First Question is "Do You Take My Dental Insurance?"

Dentists who provide high value care should not routinely hear as an initial question from new patients something similar to, "Do you take my dental insurance?”

Achieving a consistent, positive presence in a local dentistry market is crucial for a dentist to realize long-term success. This is especially true of dentists who, to be viable, must attract a higher percentage of patients who want and expect more value, and will accept more comprehensive  recommendations.

Unfortunately, many consumers have a generic, if not more negative, view of dentistry. Therefore, without evaluating the marketing environment and the strategies needed to pursue that market now, and upgrading how the dentist presents him or herself to fit the new landscape, each marketing action can lead the audience to form the wrong impression about the dentist's service, and back to the future.

Successfully changing perceptions requires more than in-office pronouncements about quality or search advertising that links to a promotion of free teeth/smile whitening, a new technology or cosmetic dentistry technique.

For example, Invisalign 'clear braces' have a great dental technology concept, but every other dentist uses it or a similar product.

Taking a proactive, pragmatic, strategic approach is necessary to change this impression. The educative value of this tightly focused approach is much greater than the sum of its parts. Understanding the basic components of effective marketing will keep the focus on long-term results.

Evaluating these components offers insight into the effectiveness of your strategy. Achieving synergy in marketing makes it more likely that people are not only made aware of the dentist's image and message, but that patients also react more appropriately to the dentist's recommendations.

Each dental marketing component – high value branding, a consistent neighborhood conversation, and assertive public presence – will be examined to develop a synergistic dentist, dental office brand identity.

In this first installment, I will look at what is the type of high value image dentists should strive to present.

High Value Image

The FOUR components of a high value image include design, message, logo, and presentation, which constitute the overall dental brand.
  • Design:  It includes colors, style of interior, external, patient, and public presented elements, and a cohesively projected image
  • Message:  It involves what is said, how it is said and how often it is being said, how congruous it is between dental team members, and in public advertising
  • Logo: The look should fit the message, service style, services presented, team, doctor, and decor presentation.
  • Presentation: Distribution of the logo/message must be done throughout the environment, not merely on a website and/or letterhead. The promotion of these elements should make them synonymous with the dentist's name and/or practice name.
Combining these four elements means the brand is able to interact effectively, succinctly and purposefully in the fashion and manner each dentist expects.

Unless dentists create this type of impact, their marketing becomes part of the clutter. With the success of this new level of influence, the dentist can create a better atmosphere of dental treatment acceptance.
The design of each dental marketing piece should make an impressive visual statement that catches the eye. However, the design must also effectively influence and work with the logo and message to uphold the brand.

Few dentistry office brands will thrive or even survive in this economy without a cohesive packaging of these elements. For example, many people have watched an entire television show, even when entertaining, have difficulty remembering the identity of any of the sponsors.

While the dental logo is part of design, in the context of the context of dentistry promotion, it has another vital purpose. Those who develop online advertising campaigns, dental postcards, brochures and other media need to think of how the logo influences the consumer in the marketing, as part of the brand and within every design element.

One basic strategy in design structure is logo placement. Placing the dental logo is very important to building the design brand. The design needs to accentuate and point to the logo. Without this design quality, the dental logo becomes just another element on the piece, like the area coder, rather than the flag bearer of the dentist's marketing.

Online images, advertisements, direct mail and the dental practice's websites will confuse the dentist's audience unless the design components are coordinated and memorable. Synergy of design, message and logo give the brand the ability to speak to the dental services consumer audience with clarity. This clarity has to be present or high value, a consistent tactile, visual conversation, and public presence are more difficult to elevate, raising the awareness high enough for consumers to see dentistry differently .

CONCLUSION

Practices that wish to sustain an effective level of marketing engagement need to find the right balance, but without engaging the branding issue, dentists will lag behind competitors. Approaching the audience in this refined way will increase the likelihood new patients will demand the dentist's highest level and most healthy appropriate treatment plan.

The competitive environment will continue in various ways because other dentists are making this upgrade, and of course, how the local economy is affecting each and every dentist in their area. The challenge is to move ahead as quickly as possible with a plan that makes sense for the individual dentists.

Yet, like the patient who is skittish about all the costs, and changes in their life involved in this choice, many dentists will put off what is needed till 'a better time' and they miss out on the benefits doing it today would have done for them.

Dental insurance, rather than being something disliked by dentists, or scorned, should be placed in the area as a supplement to the reality of what is possible, not an impediment to getting there, or even thinking about get there. High value branding is a foundation for changing perceptions, and then moving towards success for all parties involved!

--------

This has been the basics of high value branding, next up a consistent neighborhood conversation, and then the last topic in this dental marketing consulting series will be activating an assertive public presence – will be examined to develop a community aware, synergistic dentist, dental office brand identity.

Dental Students: Should Start Understanding Marketing Right Away

This is an expanded, public version of U. of Minnesota School of Dentistry dental student presentation, set for Mid November in Minneapolis. The talk and lunch is hosted by the Northern Dental Alliance, which Niche Dental, owner Dick Chwalek, a communication consultant, dentist marketing coach is a member.

What can, should a new dentist do, and think about in the first years of practice as to dental marketing?

While it may be some years before even a senior student will purchase or build their own practice, hands-on knowledge about, and appreciation for, marketing should be built from the start. Even as an associate dentist, it will be beneficial to help the practice owner develop their presence in the market.

Niche Dental has five points for dental students to consider.

First, Understand What Marketing Does, Is and its Overall Value

Whether it’s private sector or not-for-profit, the focus must be communication; publicly communicating the value of dental care. No communication, no dental health. More communication, more dental health. Communication drives everything we do, or don’t do.

Second, Notions about Communication Are Incomplete, Yours and Consumers:

Dentists will say: Patient referrals are the best. The future is online! I don’t like direct mail, therefore it can’t work. I’ll try it once and see what happens.

As opposed to consumers: Dentistry causes pain, so I stay in pain, and don’t go to a dentist. My insurance doesn’t cover it, so that recommendation is unwarranted. My previous dentist never did that, she said my dental health was fine.

These consumer and dentist misconceptions mean: nothing is as it seems. What was said by each constituent, may be partially, but it can’t be completely correct, leaving gaps in knowledge. Marketing can fill in the gaps.

The more done, the more filled in. Not building up the knowledge base is risky if consumers are still saying the same things, so they do the same things or less.

Patients like some things about dentistry, and dislike others, so following their lead is problematic. Dentists must be ready to change their perspective to coincide with how communication works, and not doing what is liked or disliked.

Stay focused on doing what’s better for yourself and consumers. Lead, don’t follow.

ThirdConnective Communication© Provides A Realistic Structure to Overcome Perceptions:

Dentistry is different. Knowing this is good, but seeing communication differently is required, too. Some answers may be familiar, but the implementation and consumer reality must be dealt with consistently, accurately and more completely.

For consumers, the old news about dental care is almost as it always was, so merely keeping up with the ‘other dentist’ in marketing, just won’t do. Dental marketing must be connective to engender any meaningful change.

Being connective requires more than one marketing element to move the consumer or patient forward into a better place. Two work better than one, three work better than two, and so forth.

Marketing that’s not working is like dry soup mix without water. Yet, without opening the bag, neither work together. The ‘referrals are best’ axiom is a good example of incomplete connectivity. While referrals may be best, more referrals are better than fewer, and so on.

Internal generation of additional referrals is just one way to approach the dilemma, but by more effectively implementing both approaches can greatly improve the other’s success.

The key is a willingness to implement an element, then another as soon as possible, rather than travel down the lack-of-communication road.

Fourth, The Goal is NOT Overcoming ALL Resistance To Better Dental Care:

Improvement is the goal. Niche Dental’s Connective Communication© is strategic improvement. It is a dentist, and local community based formula.

While overcoming societal forces is not within reach of an individual dentist, most every dentist does have great potential to increase their patient base. Unfortunately, every dentist won’t increase their base much because they won’t focus on improving and implementing strategic communication.

It’s vital dentists understand more than the marketing alphabet. They must learn to read it better, not reject its value, and avoid fits and starts. Not merely say: Patient Referrals are the best.

FifthConnective Communication© Constructs the Solution Not Just Giving ‘Answers’:

Determining a dentist’s marketing answers is an individual process. It’s also not very productive to give answers for too far in the future especially with changing technology.

Dentists often ask when calling Niche Dental, “What is the one type of marketing I should do?”

Seems fairly straightforward, but a certain amount of situational knowledge is needed. Otherwise, many budget draining missteps can occur.

A dentist's marketing plan is similar to constructing a solution to a patient’s health needs over the phone. Communication solutions are like a health diagnosis. Both communication and health are based on complicated, evolving structures.

Many see generic structure in dental marketing communication, but differences on the margins, account for many variations. Individual habits and occurrences also affect a health diagnosis, as well as a marketing plan.

In ConclusionConnective Communication© Does Provide Ready Answers:

However, Connective Communication© formula’s upfront answers provide a proper, protective and proactive marketing structure.

The three main answers, which Dick calls elements are: Improving, Gathering and Creating. This matrix prevents dentists from running into trouble, buying over-the-phone, over-the-counter, over-a-barrel budget marketing answers.

To achieve a Connective Communication© effect: Improving. Gathering. And Creating must be done together. One element is unbalanced without the others, achieving many fewer connections.

A Guide to Improving, Gathering, Creating:
  • Improving: improves value appreciation of the office, its dentistry and the dentist’s expertise.
  • Gathering: gathers up consumers already looking. Otherwise, searching consumers are split between marketing competitors, or missed entirely.
  • Creating: creates new patients from an available pool of all demographics, and reactivates current patients by nudging them to restore dentistry’s value in their lives, calming fears, etc.
Fluoride without community involvement, not allowing in water supply, evaporates its value. Fluoride is an answer, not a solution. Without a connective strategy, even the ‘best’ can be greatly diluted in value.

Postscript: So aren’t referrals the best? Yes, but being ‘best’ is an answer not a solution. Like fluoride doesn’t help someone missing a tooth.

Here’s a specific example, when an office is 99% hygiene and insurance reliant, encouraging those patient referrers to promote ‘additional’ services is globally difficult.

Yet, just 10 patient testimonials with before and after photos publicly promoted in a connective manner will exponentially multiply services value and prestige. Rather than looking in a follow-the-follower marketing mirror, generate 3D, value building communication, which is influential in your community and worthwhile to the consumer.

Thanks to the staff at the Minnesota School Dentistry for their invitation to speak.

– Freed From Generic, Founded on Value, Focused On Success

  • Reliable, Credible Consistency
  • Four Influential Communication Bedrocks:
  • Exceptional Budgeting: Flexible, Scalable, Accountable

Connective Communication©

CLIENT CASE STUDY

  • Relationship began August 2008 with New Logo and Website development.
  • Elements scaled up and phased in at client pace with goals in place.
  • Complete 'Connective' approach achieved June 2009.
  • Improving Results Recorded by February 2009!
  • Average 33+ New Patients Per Month Since at least September 2009.
  • 22+ Months Straight Growth 10%+
  • Starting Mid 2009 - Overthrowing the Downturn!
  • Alone in the Pack - of 500 dentist 'group' – Only dentist with upward sales!
  • June 2010 Best June EVER!
  • ALSO, His BEST MONTH EVER!
  • 2011 FOLLOWED with SIMILAR RESULTS

Reliable, Credible Consistency

  • You are a vital part of the success
  • Collaborate on Concept foundation
  • Approve all elements: design/message
  • Updates/Ongoing Element 'pieces'
  • - also approved by you
  • You have Final Say Throughout
  • Otherwise: You let go (it almost runs itself)

Four Influential Communication Bedrocks

  1. Value Rich Website (New or Enhance Current Plus Ongoing Updates)*

  2. Ideal Audience Directed Mailers (Consistency Rather than Volume)*

  3. Optimal Online Strategies (PPC/SEO to Social+)*

  4. Public Multiplier Marketing (X-factor for 1st 3 bedrocks)*
*Each Bedrock can be integrated into your current system - in many cases

Exceptional Budgeting

  • Flexible, Scalable, Accountable
  • Goal: to Build Your 10 foot ladder
  • Determine Goal before begin
  • Figure out initial marketing 'pieces’ within each Element
  • Budget Size May Start Wherever Feasible: except it is vital to...
  • Commit To An Optimal Timeline For Phase in of All Elements

Marketing Budget Structure

  • Management/Consulting may apply--depending on your plan/decision
  • Separate Element Agreements: Usually for Bedrock Elements, M/C and misc
  • Element Pieces may have their own separate agreements as well – achieving more flexibility
  • Terms are yearly in many cases/some shorter
  • Agree to Budget - then proceed
  • Review Patient Data to find 'gems' (practice software generated)
  • Track Activity (results/accountability/refinements) Upgrade, Enhance continually
  • Scale up as needed - with focus on timeline
  • Reasonable Scale Up is in 9-12 Months

Faster Scaling? Yes, Yet...

  • A measured pace has strategic benefits
  • Still Results are very possible sooner!
  • The 'Complete effect' takes time to build:
  • As MORE public/patients move toward a decision and greater value acceptance.

Establish the System, Refine When Needed…

  • Otherwise Let it RIDE!
  • Think: Prototype, fail. Prototype, fail less. Then the success-type emerges.
  • Rather than: Perfection snail. Perfection never nail, so success impale.

Avoid What I call 'Perfection Stretching'

  • Taking the time, and more time, and more time to may make that marketing something better…
  • Meaning 'that marketing something' will never really happen, get done, etc.
  • Rather than Perfection Stretching: Inspire to Require Release of Overseer Wires
  • - Hand over the reins to consistency and professional depth:
    - Then see new patients revenue-rain gauge fill up and enjoy the reign of practice success!

GUARANTEEING SUCCESS**

**DENTISTS: I, Dick Chwalek, guarantee Dr. __Your Name__ will only be successful if Dr.__Your Name__ does what is necessary to make it happen.

Trite? Trick? Or TRIPLE Raise the Possibilities?

Like all successes, we must do what works. Not hold back, produce. It is the same for me, you, as well as your patients...
  • Patients that do HALF of what works
  • The result: often be less than HALF
  • Of course, some 'luck out' and others are just satisfied with less.
  • If you want MORE Dr. ___Your Name__= Connective Communication©.
  • It is a Flexible, Scalable, Accountable and Success Positioned System.
While you are NOT locked into a preset/generic plan with the Connective Communication© system, only going part way or holding off too long is problematic as well.

Like a ten foot barrier that requires a ten foot ladder, building anything less means not overcoming the barrier.

However, piecing together 'all main elements sufficiently' is better than crafting one element well: perfect ladder rungs but a very weak supporting structure can greatly diminish the other element's value.

Start Guaranteeing Success!

Nashville Dentist's Patient BEFORE Smiles Change to Healthy AFTERS

Movie of Health Improved, Lives Enhanced, Smiles Transformed

Seeing is Believing:

So See Smile Makeovers Right Here.

These lives and smiles were changed by...

Comprehensive Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry

Dr. Kent E. White’s expertise in aesthetic enhancement, restorative care, neuromuscular dentistry, biomimetics and laser treatment translates into comprehensive, long lasting and natural-looking solutions for his patients.

He is constantly in pursuit of the highest quality of care for his patients.

After Smile
Because people are much more health conscious and aware of how their smile can impact their confidence, Dr. White’s abilities fill an area of dentistry currently not comprehensively implemented or achieved very consistently. He has pioneered the use of metal-free ceramics and porcelain for crowns and veneers and resin restorative procedures instead of silver/mercury fillings.

As an instructor at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute, he was also able to share his expertise in creating beautiful new smiles. While at the LVI, he taught and mentored the top dentists in the world in the science and art of aesthetic dentistry. Currently, about one percent of dentists pursues this level of training.

In Nashville and other communities he is still teaching dentists the value of conservative, metal-free dentistry, and how to rehabilitate a smile and straighten teeth using non-orthodontic alignment. Finally, he uses his background in neuromuscular dentistry to offer you proper balance for pain free function.

Includes Restorative/Reconstructive Dentistry

“Our goal is to restore teeth back to their original health, strength and beauty in the most conservative manner possible,” explains Dr. White. “We’re finding that, given the choice, most people would prefer to have the new dental materials and preserve healthy tooth structure rather than what is currently being taught in dental schools around the country.”

Dr. White has a high level of proficiency in reconstructive dentistry. He was one of the first dentists in North America to complete Full Mouth Reconstructive Training at the World’s Premier Post-Graduate teaching center. At the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies he undertook intensive hands-on training. He learned the latest principles of proper function.
Before
After Smile

Given that training and his constant quest for better solutions, he is able to provide valuable treatments that give the patient many benefits including increased function, relief from years of pain, prevention of future discomfort and achievement of longer-term health.

In combination with his understanding of neuromuscular and aesthetic dentistry, Dr. White has transformed his practice into a place for healing, happiness and health.

Plus Neuromuscular Dentistry

This kind of expertise is unique. It’s an approach that looks at other causes for neuromuscular pain and prevention of pain before focusing all the attention on teeth. Neuromuscular dentistry isn’t brand new, but the diagnostic technology has caught up to the treatment.

If the muscles of your face and jaw are not in correct balance it can affect many other muscles of your head, neck, shoulders and back. Dr. White is able to determine your proper resting posture and then provide treatments that give you pain free results.

1ST Installment: To See More Patients Consistently – Imagine Dentistry Differently

The following dental marketing blog/article is formatted & written in a style that may challenge readers who are partial to concise and self contained concepts.
Why?
The point I am making requires a discerning rethinking of communication in reference to dentistry. Unpacking the dental care prioritization riddle is NOT found in “Secret” Dental Marketing Reports!
And, why would anyone hide a solution from dentists, which would help improve dental health in their community?

Developing a system to compensate for the ‘reality of where consumers/patients and dentists’ are required deep research, analysis of actual results, long term perspective (years) and finally, a societally reflective reality check.
This was done to determine how all past/current marketing tactics and communication approaches influence dentists and consumers: positively and negatively.
Using the researched data developed, I created a system that does not, like too much of the dentistry focused marketing, ‘paint over’ what was/is and will be ‘wrong’ with the communication environment.
Unless ‘ALL the real issues’ are confronted and the system/solution is fully developed - not slapped together - the dearth of benefits from dental marketing will continue to lag (harming public, economic and office health) whether we are in tough economic times or not. (SeniorJournal.com)

Skimming the shiny objects from the marketing goodie tray is a symptom – but also a major contributor to the flat lining or worse of dentistry acceptance and value prioritization. While ‘good skimming’ will show results – it merely masks the problems underneath: value stays low or does little to move consumers forward.
Like flossing and brushing can only do so much if someone is more ‘predisposed’ to periodontal disease than the above average person, marketing done slapdash that moves one step ahead - will then move 99.5% back.
That said, to make this dentistry communication blog-article somewhat easier to consume I am going to present it in small portions--with a link to the full concept at the end of each section...

Let’s begin:
First, some...

Dental Word Association:

Skimp. Skimp. Skimp. Minimal. Minimal. Minimal. Cheaper. Cheaper. Cheaper.

Dentistry Priority Digression Questions:

Any other way to approach it? Can I hold off on...? I can't see paying that much!

Dentistry Reductionism Source Discovery:

Words & Questions Above: Who do these words and statements relate to:
  • = The Public & Patients Value Perspective of Dentistry
  • = Most Dentists View of/Approach to Marketing
HmmmNotice the similarity?
Whoa...! Correlation may just Equal Causation!
Theorem = Patients prioritize the value of dentistry as dentists do the value of communicating the priority to patients.

Installment

Availability of New Dental Patients Video: Part 1 of 2

Connective Communication© involves combining the layers of marketing required to activate a vibrant new patient base and sustain a high level of available participants.
"Availability" is generally constant yet can be increased when the right combination of activators is in place. Rather than throwing dental marketing 'stuff' at the wall - dentists develop a matrix that not only 'gathers' the current available group but 'creates' more new patients and improves the value of what they request/purchase.

Connective Communication: The Introduction for Dentists

> A Primer By Dick Chwalek, NicheDental.com

The concept of Connective Communication© incorporates these elements: improvers, gatherers and creators. The communication structure is visualized with these elements: a Pie Chart, three color slices and the Ï€ symbol – image below.

This formula takes into account both simplicity and complexity in defining a path towards communication and marketing ongoing success, internally and publicly.

The ‘extra decimal’ elements in the Connective Communication© (Pi & 3.14+) formula refers to various marketing elements that are somewhat or totally anchorless. The intersection of the pie chart colors represents where communication interacts, often making each element much more powerful and effective.

These areas of marketing can be separated generally but never are they completely independent. When independent ‘value’ is purported – “Our dental marketing tactic/product/system works better” – dentists must flee as fast as clinically possible! Only working in one marketing area has short and long term consequences. This concept is relevant for both marketing to consumers and dentists purchasing marketing.

The interaction of these basic elements demonstrates how dentistry marketing is both simple and complex. However, often it is simplified in areas where it should NOT be and made complex in other situations to engender some level of superiority. These tactics make both dentists (customers of marketing) and dental consumers very susceptible to proceeding with ineffective and inappropriate solutions.

Some of the buyer beware statements to watch for are ‘guaranteed’ and ‘money back’ offers. This type of promotion does not always delegitimize the offer, but like any ‘advertising promise’ the restrictions are often the iceberg of complexity underneath.

Simplicity in this environment should be a watchword for the sticky wicket of complexity that hampers trust development. Because dental treatment is different than most other services (delay, denial, fear…) marketing of dentistry has to be even more above board to generate proper levels of trust.

There are some ‘generic’ advertising services and products that work in most situations. However, it has a short half life once competition increases and/or the economy/local environment changes. This is where the dentist and dental practices needs to employ customization and do more than merely add the ‘next best’ technology/marketing gimmick.

Many dentists want a simplified concept that is as close to ‘automated’ as possible so as not to deal with it in any ongoing manner (supposed save time, worry, headaches. etc). This is a major reason why Yellow Page advertising was very appealing for many years. One time a year the dentist develops an ad and then dental patients roll in for a year effortlessly.

The Internet made the concept of simplicity is even more attractive. Unfortunately, online services have many characteristics that create an unbalanced perspective about the potential of marketing. Because much of the activity and details are viewable and accessible 24/7 there is a belief generated that you can do it yourself and/or it can be nearly free to make lots of money.

But the reality of online marketing is more like the right side rearview mirror in a car: dental marketing is not a simple as it appears. The approaching traffic of marketing complexity collision is only hammered home after many thousands of dollars, hours and MIA new patients.

Getting in ‘at the right time’ can create success, but most of us get there just as the market is on its way down, obviously. Conversely, slow and steady only wins the race when there is a successful strategy in the driver’s seat.

Connective Communication© is a marketing formula that combines a simplified structure with the complex reality of a progressively implemented, comprehensive strategy.

Simplified in its basic elements, the complexity of Connective Communication© comes in the form of our brains reducing everything to simplicity, which requires a grueling learning curve reversal (aka: beating head against the wall) until we are going in the right direction.

Simply trying to ‘get in’ at the right time means running into the oncoming traffic of complexity as we drive the wrong way on the oneway street of reality. What Connective Communication© does is provide a platform based on the simple truths of marketing effectively blended with real life complexity that makes long term success possible.

Interested in knowing more? We should talk. If you are comfortable using Skype, a video consult gets things real. Either way, phone or Skype video… You will get more details.

Dick Chwalek, Niche Dental Director/President

Suffer Tooth Pain or Visit Your Local Dentist? That is the Question

We as dental consumers worry about going to the dentist because of the 'pain' it will cause. Then we delay and we have more pain. Then we dental consumers hear the term Root Canal Treatment.

"OMG, that will hurt me even more!"

Sadly, we have been mislead by fear-of-the-unknown know less than nothings and dental Illiterati .

While I would like to introduce you to Dr. Schreiber (new member of Dr. Briglia's Total Confidence Dentistry team) if you are experiencing a toothache, swollen gums or other throbbing pain, make a dental appointment to end the pain and possibly even SAVE your tooth!

I wrote a 'serial tweet' about Josh Hamilton (TX Ranger) with tooth problems - who waited and waited and now needs root canals and other restorative work.

See first entry of Josh serial tweet - below.

So using the money excuse is fine, but most likely it is more about misunderstanding the value of root canal treatment. Josh is a perfect example of how it is not REALLY money - but how much you value and/or know about dentistry's value to your life.

Dentist Emphasizing Root Canal Therapy Teams Up
With West Chester Dental OfficeTo End Toothaches and Keep Smiles Healthy

Dr. Glenn Schreiber has teamed up with Total Confidence Dentistry in West Chester, PA to provide our patients with tremendously important endodontic treatment. His proficiency in Root Canal therapy, clinically known as endodontics, can eliminate pain while preserving natural teeth.

Dr. Schreiber, a general dentist, has focused his extensive experience on developing an approach to root canal therapy that achieves a high level of quality very efficiently and more affordably. By limiting his practice to endodontics, he has been able to develop a proficient and methodical approach to care, which means patients are much less likely to have recurring infection and need another root canal.

His background and knowledge in endodontic treatment is thoroughly documented by the 800-1000 successful and comfortable root canal procedures he performs each year.

There are four key reasons Dr. Schreiber, a general dentist, is able to cost-effectively achieve a high level of quality.

1) Dental Care Diligence: Thoroughly cleaning out canal debris and sealing the tooth root is critical. This attention to detail has a positive tradeoff, which can be lifelong health rejuvenation rather than re-infection and costly and time consuming return visits. Saving the natural tooth with root canal therapy has an extended and expanded level of value.

2) Emphasis On Failure Avoidance: Many more root canal compromised teeth can be treated successfully with the proper approach. To avoid endodontic treatment failure, a focused awareness of the tooth anatomy and a more exacting level of care are required. The likelihood of saving teeth with a root canal is greatly increased when these methods are combined.

3) Ending Chronic Inconvenience: Dr. Schreiber knows getting it right the first time is vital. Poor treatment can cause chronic abscesses, requiring more expensive re-treatment. Another visit could create costly inconvenience for the patient (missing work, etc.). Too many times this means distressing tooth loss as well. Unfortunately, the more expensive, re-treated root canals are also known to be less successful, even with the best approach in the most skillful hands.

4) Scientific, Evidence-Based Treatment: After having treated thousands of teeth, Dr. Schreiber has found that about 80% of first upper molars (teeth #3 and #14) have 4 canals instead of the previously expected 3 canals. Four canals, is now the accepted number in endodontic literature and other journals for these teeth. It is important that dentists look for all four root canals and treat them when appropriate, otherwise, discomfort and re-infection of the tooth can occur.
